@ruki
Hell yeah digimon tamers fan
I agree, I think it could be very interesting having the episodes in a 'monogatari' style (Haven't rly watched em but I know what you mean)
Only issue is just, if they do it like that or not, and if they do it how good will it be? Overall I am cautiously optimistic about the show overall, but am keen to see what they do with the Pilot
big fan of butches, not so much butchers
Why does it gotta be only 11 minutes is my only complaint for now. 😭 And is there any possibility that we get a full series or was this only meant to promote readers to the site(s) and merch?

its been hours and im still just sitting here in shock
what year is it again???
not if i have anything to say about it
we are in the infamous superhell, and gods won't have any mercy upon anyones soul
i can't imagine how bad the vriscourse will get, although that would be a good way to tell how good the adaptation is
anyway *grabs popcorn* watching fandoms/internet implode is bound to be entertaining however it goes
^ me when i talk
I want this supposed 11 minutes to be a full 30 ngl and like... idk I'm hesitantly optimistic and a watch party is already planned with friends and I. FULL SERIES GREENLIGHT PLEASE! (I know it ain't out yet, just manifesting it)

> i just don't know who's funding it
Vizziepop is credited as an "executive producer," and in Hollywood, those are generally understood to be people who make significant funding contributions.
I'm honestly way more worried about hyper-defensive existing fans who will read ill intent into any misinterpretations any new animated-only fans have than I am about new fans having Bad Takes. Unfortunately it will be difficult to engage with new fans in a well-mannered way even if one wants to purely because corrections will largely be spoilers. So it's gonna be complicated.
I think that engaging with the new animated series is going to be like... a complete mess regardless of how it is approached. I'll fully admit, I have a very poor opinion of vivziepop and her work, and I see her involvement in this at all as a bad sign, but I'm also just extremely dubious as to even the concept of a homestuck animated series. I want to be wrong and I want it to be cool and awesome and good, but I struggle to imagine a world where that ends up being the case. I do seriously hope that anyone who watches it has a good time, but frankly I'm just going to avoiding it like the plague for as long as I can.
Thinking about : Cowboys/Westerns and RPGMaker games!
idk who the hell this vivziepop is tbh, so i'm just hoping the show will be good and all.
well, at the very least, taking this trailer by itself, it sure looks very promising. (although honestly i was in real disbelief the whole time watching it, as in "there's no way this is real")
will this new show ensue more drama along the way? oh, i'm sure. i don't care though.
HONE is the art director and now im hyped
(HONE has done stuff for homestuck before and also works on hiveswap)
Cautiously optimistic here - I love "Helluva Boss," and Toby Fox's involvement is a good sign.
(I find it hilarious that us filthy Homestucks are all, "Get those filthy Hazbins outta here!")
ah, cubecrow said it before me, but yeah, finding out Hone is the art director makes me a little more optimistic
it's 15 of them
"Hoped you saved your game, cause you're dead."
i also had to make a containment thread so my friends could talk about it somewhere and the only conclusion we got is that it's probably gonna fizzle out pretty quickly, because of the difficulties with adapting homestuck into a traditional series format. that and a lot of characters are probably gonna get kneecapped to some degree because a lot of them ride on stuff that aged sorta poorly, but you don't really think about it until the possibility of removal due to how a modern audience would take it comes up.
there's likely just gonna be a lot of issues. and helluvaverse fans if it gets picked up anyways. i REALLY don't want to have to moderate that.
I don't really see wwhy people are focusing on the hellaverse fans, to be honest. Imo fans of any franchise are about as annoying as each other, because social media is the main gathering point for most fandoms noww, and social media pressures people to become annoying dramamongers if they wwant to get likes on their posts. I think if any of the people wwho get into Homestuck from Vivziepop Homestuck (feat. Toby Fox) come to the forums, they wwill be normal.
Hot metal looks like cold metal, but feels different.
This is going to breed a new wave of homestucks and that both terrifies and excites me
I think people WAY overestimate how difficult Homestuck would be to adapt. A huge portion of Homestuck's length is gags and chatlogs which are medium-specific. The MSPA format is inherently meandering. Put it in a pure audiovisual format? Many of the gags can be replaced and made snappier, many of the sideplots can be condensed, and dialogue can be way quicker thanks to visual shorthand which isn't usually possible in an MPSA format outside of like a 10 second gif or a flash without any dialogue anyway. Homestuck is genuinely very adaptable as long as you are willing to take freedoms with how key information is presented or ordered. The issue with the books is that they weren't an adptation, but instead an attempt at a 1:1 release. The main issue will be the amount of characters, but with a solid runtime (hopefully longer than the pilot seems to have), that can be handled well too. It should go without saying that they've already thought long and hard about how to do this, or they wouldn't be doing a pilot at all.
Yeah, I also don't think it would be impossible to adapt Homestuck as a cartoon. A lot of the appeal of Homestuck is the interactive parts of it because it's supposed to be a spoof on video games and whatnot. But most of the first half of Homestuck is spent with John literally goofing off and not doing much, or the kids just kind of wasting time trying to get other things. I mean most of Rose's portion is her trying to find a place to plug in her laptop lol.
There's definitely a lot they can just cut and squeeze together so it fits with this new adaptation. And I think them showing Karkat so early is another reason for this, because obviously we don't get to see the trolls until way later, but this is a pilot and we have to show all of the most popular characters right off the bat to get people talking about it and interested.
I think if people really want a 1:1 adaptation then they're going to be really disappointed and should probably just reread the comic at that point lol.
Excited by all the cool changes lately! I really hope this and project soundpage both take off, this is the project that got me excited enough to post something on the forums.
I know I'm getting ahead of myself and I'm not normally really a fan cast guy, but I was talking with some friends about potential castings for Vriska and it occurred to me Sena Bryer would be almost perfect for the role, with the big caveat of whether she wants it in the first place.
I got so excited about the idea I decided to come here and post about it just to get it out of my head! My logic is basically that Sena Bryer is:
1) An accomplished voice actress who's got an extremely high profile role as Wuk Lamat in hit mmorpg final fantasy 14 dawntrail, free to play up to level 80 and the shadowbringers expansion-- or however the meme goes.
Wuk Lamat is basically the deuteragonist of the latest expansion and her arc is very yuri, which is good background for Vriska I think. FF14 is really popular and it'd be cool to get fandom overlap from it too, maybe moreso for me personally since I'm a longtime player of the game.
2) A trans woman, which, I just hope the role goes to a trans woman in general so this helps in my book.
3) A proud Homestuck, to the point that she voiced Zebede in Friendsim 2, which is already FRAF adjacent.
4) Puerto Rican, which helps with the diversity element of the cast somewhat.
I just think it'd be cool. Honestly way early to be thinking this far ahead, I admit, but its fun so why not.
'"I thought this was a love story," you say.
Your Lola's insistence has remained with you since the beginning, and you say these words in a quiet manner, with a shrug, as if to let these performers know it is fine, it does not matter that much, this thought—that maybe the definition of what a love story is could be stretched to include all that has up till now taken place. You say it like an apology. Like it is a thing to be apologized for.
A runaway child, charging through the porcelain shelves:
I thought this was a love story. I had hoped this was a love story.
You say it with shame, embarrassed at having said it, wishing you could take it back.
You say it, worried that you have betrayed some secret part of yourself that does not wish to be exposed—
an old gremlin in you, sick and yearning. You say it with hope.
Timid, and without conviction.
The hope of someone who knows they are about to wake from a dream to a reality they do not understand. The pub awaits, as does your empty bed.
I thought this was a love story.
You regret having said it; as if you know it will lessen the quality of the tale. Rob it of its smoke and shadow. But still, you say it.
And this moonlit body smiles. And from the wings the patting of the drums slowly builds, and the curtains behind the dancers rise. Because you are right, this moonlit body tells you;
This is indeed a love story. Down to the blade-dented bone.'
