UPD8 THREAD 8/1/25 (spoilers)

New species is pretty fantastic design-wise, lots of little elements. Like Ly'lac's Xenomorph-adjacent tongue when screaming.

I'm curious if Deltritus as a concept for the sessions is connected across time rather than space (across the planet, but instead different eras of the planet) given some of the implications of the dialogue, based on my interpretation. It would make for a fantastic way for the entire planet to not die in one single shot, but it would also raise the possibility that Deltritus has in fact experienced multiple world-ending apocalypses via asteroid, and each era's attempt was a large set of attempted players to continue the seeding process.

Also I feel like I only just now realized "seeding" in game terms is similar to torrent like files. Tidal torrents, Shrub seeding. Multiple eras with a handful of players who attempted the game. With a set of six players across six different eras of Deltritus' planetary history.

if the nymphs (or at least ly'lac) are influenced design-wise by rose (considering the squiddles theme), im interested to see what the alien designs will be for dirk's species. specifically in regards to what aspects of his character they may or may not derive their influences from.

(based on dirk and rose's mentioned contest in developing their own separate races to inhabit deltritus from the 4/13/24 update. might re-read later for a refresher/better understanding.)

overall, really enjoyed the latest upd8. excited to learn more about shurb, see how much it differs from sburb and what will be happening next in the comic.

are the eyes on ly'lac's squid hair vestigial? or is ly'lac not the girl but actually the squid on top of the girl like a parasite? i love this new species so much..

we are SO back. I wasn't a fan in the original glory (or rather infamous) years of homestuck, since I only began reading it and also being aware of it in late 2022, but this feels like I have a chance to experience being in the active fandom (and on the forums! holy shit!!) in all of its joy. (and also in its toxicity and overwhelming-ness, I saw that the person who posted a vriscourse thread was banned for the post, peak comedy). ALSO the latest two updates had me happy stimming and walking around my room in joy

@poonking i was thinking the same thing about the parasite. someone also said something about squiddles and the 24 squiddle session theory i remember from yeeeears ago which i always loved because i always felt like the horrorterror squid creatures were never fully explored or fleshed out personally? my bets on nymphs being horrorterrors....but what do i know likeee...it would be homestuck fashion to complete a weird temporal loop like that

re:mateto One of my crack theories for a while has been that god tier satyrs become alicorns. I'm not sure if this would mean that some satyrs are the equivalant of earth ponies, pegasai, or unicorns. That could also just be a god tier thing. But I mean, we know going god tier lets you fly and do cool magic stuff.... Sounds like an alicorn to me if they're horse/mlp themed! XD

I really hope that we will keep getting more upd8s, because I want moooooore crumbs!!!

My personal (baseless) prediction: Because we saw what was very clearly Terezi giving a command, this session won't actually have exiles. Rather, All the appearifying shenanigans will be done by Dirk, Rose, and Terezi.

gosh this upd8 was SO EXCITING, ly'lac is such a lovely char so far!!! i'm SO excited about the prospect of this species and i'm suuuuuuper excited to find out what worldly and cultural mechanics + dynamics there are for this new cast. not to mention, it is all as funny as ever :-)

definitely super excited that we're diving into a new species again. also, the page number in which we learn her name is 801; which is also the date it came out august 1st. i really like when those line up. adds to the fun. tc seems cool too! hopefully we see more nymphs soon.

Given the "delaying of the inevitable" and the statement "prophecies must always play out" I'm curious if the idea here is that a sustained paradox is the goal in order to retain Homestuck's initial relevance, thereby making sure it will never stop being relevant and hold weight, but the possibility is that they will break free from the constant paradoxes and forge their own future and their own weight.

this is a sort-of-theory built repeatedly on itself so i wouldnt be surprised if 1 little turn of canon collapses it but i have reason to believe nymphs are an all female race and satyrs are all male ( weird gender shit in hsbc + mythological origin + an actual honest to god Homosexual species since lets be real we did not get a full payoff with the leprechauns ) and i think another point in its favour is , assuming tc is a satyr and cc / aa are nymphs , nymphs have Witch Hats and satyrs have Wizard Hats on naglink . given rose wrote homestucks hp the ' witches are girls wizards are boys ' logic isnt entirely implausible to me . again im fully aware this will very easily be dislodged because of how many other theories it is building off of but it just means that now im a real homestuck fan

So the things on Ly'lacs head. The most obvs answer seems to be eyes, since her hair is very much like a squiddle/the thing on Rose's shirt, and someone else already posed if they are vestigal or not. But could they also be like, not eyes? like obvs they're based on eyes, but they're just like, nubs? like nubby horns or somesuch? there is a bit that says "numbnubs" so, perhamps

i'm torn on what i think they are/want them to be. I hope we eventually have someone in the Aranea role of like, giving us a bunch of lore on their xenobiology and culture or whatever, maybe Rose herself at some point

It is my own personal belief that TC is a satyr purely because he calls Ly'lac a "silly filly" and I think that would be amusing foreshadowing, lol.

plus TC used "laps" as a metric for time instead of "tidal turns" like the nymphs. TC is definitely a satyr lol

i neeeeed to know more about satyrs. ly'lac is very entertaining with her shenanigans, and who is the caretaker..? is it rose?

ly'lac had got me kinda instantly obsessed. excited to meet new characters and theorize about them.
