This is about BEYOND CANON , not the epilogues, I think most people prefer the meat epilogues and I never read em so I can't ask about it.
Anyways, back to the main topic.
Act 1 of HSBC is over, we're onto the nypmhs now, so my question is: What do you guys prefer? Meat or Candy? Act 1 only, we haven't seen A2 Candy yet.
I personally prefer candy because of the last panels: I found the Vriska stuff compelling, I like the omega kids, art is wonderful, the last conversation between all the adults was engaging, I just liked it.
Meat does have Aradia, Alt-Calli and Terezi which IS a plus but honestly it felt more dissapointing. Rose And Rezi are interesting and I love alt-Callie but I am not a Dirk fan, and meat heavily centers around Dirk. Also when we focus on the other crew [Meat Dave's] it ends up feeling like filler too.
Early Candy is probably worse than early meat but late candy is wonderful and everything has a purpose meanwhile meat CAN be good and it did also pick up more at the end it just didn't feel as strong as late Candy.
Meat ACT1 might be more important but I just find Candy ACT1 more engaging.
MEAT. IF WE ARE TALKING EPILOuGES (SORRY TO TALK ABOuT THEM BuT IT IS KINDA RELEVANT TO MY POINT!). MAINLY BECAuSE IT CONTAINS MORE META DISCuSSION ABOuT WHAT BEING CANON *REALLY* IS. THERE ARE ALSO OTHER IDEAS DISCuSSED IN MEAT THAT FASCINATE ME AND IS BRAIN FOOD FOR ME TO CHEW ON. AND ALTHOuGH THIS IS ALSO PRESENT IN THE CANDY PATH IT IS NOT AT PRESENT AS I WOuLD LIKE IT TO BE. I SAT THROuGH THE CANDY EPILOuGES AND ENJOYED THEM! BuT NOT TO THE DEGREE I LOVED THE MEAT PATH. BOTH ARE FuCKING WONDERFuL AND I RECCOMEND ANYONE TO READ BOTH! I THINK THEY REALLY NAIL ALMOST EVERYTHING IN BOTH PATHS.
HOWEVER FOR HSBC. IT A CLOSER CALL THAN I EXPECTED! WE'VE NATuRALLY SEEN MORE OF THE CANDY PATH THAN THE MEAT PATH SO THAT PuT IT IN THE LEAD. ITS CHARACTERS HAVE HAD TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND TIME TO BE DEVELOPED. BuT SOMETHING KEEPS ME DRAWN TOWARDS MEAT STILL. EVEN WITH ALOT OF THE META DISCuSSIONS TONED DOWN AND THERE BEING ALOT LESS SCREEN TIME. I *ADORE* WHAT THEY DID WITH AL, DAVEBOT AND ARADIA. THEY ARE THE BEST THROuPLE EVER FIGHT ME. I ALSO ENJOY THE TEREZI ANGST SCENES A WHOLE LOT. HOWEVER. THE VRISKA PLOT POINT HAD ME DOING LITTLE JIGS WHILST READING IT. ITS JuST....SO GOOD! I DO GENuINELY ENJOY BOTH!
AND YES. I AGREE. I WISH THEY WOuLD DO MORE BESIDES FARTING AROuND DOING NOTHING IN MEAT. BuT I FEEL AS IF THEY ARE SETTING uP GREATNESS! IT WAS A SMALL DROuGHT - ONE I WOuLD COMPARE TO THE METEOR. WHEN DAVE, ROSE, REZI, ECT. WERE ALL ON THAT METEOR IT WAS BORING AS ALL DICK. BuT THAT DIDNT MAKE THEM ANY LESS COMPELLING. THOuGH DIRK AND ROSE WERE ALOOOOT MORE INTERESTING IN THE EPILOuGES THAN THEY ARE NOW. I AM HOPEFuL THEY ARE SETTING uP SOMETHING GOOD WITH THEM. AND I WAIT WITH BAITED BREATH..... THE DAVE-AL-RADIA SCENES MAKE uP FOR ALL THE NOTHINGNESS TO ME RN. MY OTP.. THIS IS NOT TO DIMINISH THE CANDY PATH. I FIND IT ENTHRALLING AS WELL! ESPECIALLY THE JuNK WITH ROSE, VRISKA, JADE AND JuNE. VEEEERY EXCITED TO SEE WHERE ALL THAT GOES.
TLDR; A CLOSE CALL BuT IM GOING TO HAVE TO SAY MEAT ON THIS ONE! AGAIN, IT WAS DIFFICuLT PICKING ONE AS BOTH ARE REALLY WELL WRITTEN BuT MEAT HAS MY HEART AND WILL HAVE MY HEART. FOREVER.

For me it's also meat! I like the space adventure more from the start and Rosebot + Davebot are there as well. Catnapped and Diamonds, Dames and Dads are also set in the meat universe and they're my fav bonus comics. Candy is also very good with the Jane content and the kids and commander Karkat but meat just has more of my favorite characters and designs. Really excited about the Vriska retcon too because now both Janey and Lara are on the ship instead of having to stay on Earth C.
Additionally, Jane is still fat in meat <3 Basically meat has more content that I personally enjoy so it's my fav (although Candy has more intriguing drama so there's that)

I think meat is more interesting overall despite being a bit worse than candy in my opinion. they both feel very different, which makes me wonder how both timelines are going to form together.
I'm not sure what the point of talking about Meat and Candy but not the Epilogues is... so I'm just going to ignore that lol??
Candy epilogue is one of the most personally emotionally affecting stories I've read in my entire life. It's very dear to my heart.
The very prospect of "continuing" that story is a shaky one and HS2 does have some growing pains in this regard (immediately reversing some of the epilogues' major poignancies). It sticks the landing big time though.
Candy for me.
I feel Meat kind of got hampered by having relatively little actual plot in Act 1 due to that story being already quite well-advanced by the end of the Epilogues. Some neat scenes, but most of them have fun dialogue without really changing anything. Meanwhile, Candy had a ton of trailing plot-threads that needed sorting out. It just had more drama.
(Am I the only one who wishes they had some kind of visual clue on-screen to show which timeline we're in?)

In hindsight not including the epilogues was a dumb decision on my part lol
Beyond Canon's Meat is a lot slower-moving than its Candy, so its Candy is kind of more compelling by default just because more events have happened. As the scales even going forward, I'm excited to see more of Deltritus! (I've placed my life savings on auguryAside lol)
