If SBurb were to actually release, with or without the whole "creating a new universe" spiel would it actually manage to find ANY success in the modern gaming landscape??
(This question comes from sleep deprivation)
beware the warning!
I'm not sure... But I'm trying to make a SBURB Text Adventure Game right now, so I'll let you know if it's big! That is, if any of my Echoes can get through the Beta...
The Real Homestuck?
That's the friends we made along the way!

I feel like whether or not it blows up would serious depend on whether or not it was a creating a new universe thing. In both cases I know I'd play it. It'd definitely be unique in the indie scene I feels.
No, not enough of an advertising budget. Might actually find success in a similar vein to other friend based games like lethal company. since it basically is a 4 player roguelite.
id like to believe that it would work out but honestly it really depends on Who makes it i think. if its a bigger company or a successful indie developer i think so but otherwise it feels too niche :/
killian - she/it
I think it'd probably be an underground hit, but it's so strange and esoteric and reliant on tropes from games like The Sims that it would probably have a hard time garnering any mainstream popularity. I'd play it though.
Microsoft Paint's strongest soldier.
I mean even without creating a new universe I think the property damage lawsuits alone would bankrupt any company attempting to sell it. It would be a hell of an item to get your hands on if you could though so it would be certainly a game that gets remembered and isnt that what we need more then a commercial success.
My mind is no fortress! It is an open pasture ravaged by internecine conflict - and chicken
Building things, looting and killing stuff - the aesthetics as they are presented in the comic are very 00's, but the gameplay so&nds like something between Valheim and Fortnight, both of which are popular games (although one a couple orders of magnitude more than the other).
I think it depends on how many of the features from the game are there. If you can import the floorplan of you own living space, and the game can generate environment, quests and NPCs with big enough variation and relation to user input, then I think it would be hugely popular. Well-made-wacky works. User creativity sells. But you would need the full novel implementation of the game, not just a fascimile of the experience shown in the comic.
if sburb got popular today people would be calling it friendslop
If you were able to upload clips on the Internet of your friends eating absolute dirt, I think it would be.
Then again, would they be able to see the clips? The meteor shower would probably cause a lot of internet connection issues, realistically speaking.
the question definitely could've been phrased better but it's popularity would probably come from controversy (property destruction etc) & whatever clips people would be able to upload in time (keeping in mind that the SBurb beta was already out for a few days at the start of homestuck)
honestly "is SBurb friendslop?" is a MUCH better question to ask
beware the warning!
Sburb would def be considered friendslop, but its my friendslop..
i mean with how the game is similar to like roller coaster tycoon or anything like that
yeah it would be popular
