Wow, a new forum about the Homestuck Anime!
I think it would be interesting to ask what everyone's predictions are, if they're prepared for its release, etc.
Here are a few questions to answer:
1) How much (page-wise) do you think the pilot will cover?
2) Do you think it'll be good or bad (in your opinion)?
3) What's the deal with KARKAT? What about Jade? AH???
4) How long do you think it'll be?
5) Will there be musical numbers?
6) Do you think children's content farms will capitalize on it? What do you think will get crossed over with Homestuck against its will in Minecraft SFM Nursery Rhymes?
7) What do you think new viewers will think of Homestuck?
10) What do you think of the voice acting, or the animation so far?
I think it'd be fun to go back to these after it comes out.
Ice trixie uses brightness attack:
1 - Since its confirmed to be ~11 minutes I think that it might either go up to only half of Act 1, or a heavily condensed version of the full of Act 1
2 - I have faith that it will be good.
3 - This is distinctly a pilot and not an "episode 1", which I will say is an important difference because a pilot is mainly intended to gauge interest in a full series. I believe that Karkat and Jade's presence are a liberty taken for the reason of this being a pilot episode- giving teasers of some of what to expect, primarily aimed at hooking in casual audiences. I think the AH author sona inclusion is probably something to do with this as well, likely to tease the meta narrative element of the series.
4 - As previously mentioned the pilot is 11 minutes according to the Animate Orlando panel it was announced at. But a potential full series I think could potentially be done in 4-5, maybe 6 seasons? I've heard that the proposed plan includes a rewritten/shorter version of Act 6, so I think something like S1 = A1-3, S2 = Intermission + A4, S3 = A5A1, S4 = A5A2, S5+6 = Act 6. This all depends on the pacing, the lengths of episodes, and how long each season is though. This is just what sounded nice in my head.
5 - Rapping scenes, duh!! Them licensing How Do I Live or I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing would also be extremely funny though.
6 - Honestly, I see a 50/50 chance of this happening. I don't see content farms use vivziepop characters nearly as much as like Digital Circus or Friday Night Funkin. Its very plausible that Homeslop doesn't happen, but it also very plausibly could. Only time will tell.
7 - I think they will think its pretty cool. I looked up some reactions from people who were like "idk what this is but this looks neat!". I think it'll probably be divisive among Homestuck fans and some people will continue to be really really annoying about it like they already kind of are being online, but I think overall the outside reception will probably be positive.
10 (where'd 8 and 9 go? did 7 eat them?) - I like it! I think some people have been too nitpicky of it but I think its nice so far. The backgrounds and the art style are very like cartoon network-y and I think that's cool. I still think the fact that Homestuck characters having "official voice actors" who are industry people who play other well known characters is something I am still not used to, I'm not sure when I'm going to be used to that. Imagine going to a convention and the guests have a Homestuck character on their banner next to like famous anime and video game characters, like what the fuck. The casting announcement for Richard Steven Horvitz playing Caliborn in the Act 6 cartoon adaptation is going to be insane. Honestly won't even be surprised if he ends up playing some random other extras before then like Eggs and Biscuits from the Felt or something idk. On that note though, that brings me to the one thing I am most curious about, and that I also submitted to the Q&A:
I am SO curious how they will adapt all the dialogless characters. Like, they don't have "dialog" but they aren't characters who can't speak. Will there be an external narrator, will all their scenes be internally monologued, or will they be fully voiced with speaking scenes?? The idea of the Midnight Crew audibly speaking to each other is cursed but... not wrong?? Like they do talk to each other but we don't read it directly. I just want to see the Intermission episode more than anything, really.
1. dunno about pages specifically but apparently its said to cover most of the first act. i think it will probably be quite condensed though
2. i want to be hopeful, i think it will be pretty good. i hope. theres no way of telling yet though
3. probably condensed, so jade will show up a bit and AH as well even tho they werent until later. jade will probably be mainly talking unless they put some stuff in like her intro bit and AH i have no idea. for karkat the writer said its still backwards trlling but just different order of events so i think he's not gonna be a huge part, probably showing up at the end as a cameo. thatd be ideal for me at least.
4. its said to be 11 minutes
5. maybe like one, as a bit. its not gonna be a musical tho
6. they already have look up davekat song they exist
7. i feel like its gonna be presented as this like quirky nerdy comedy which encapsulates the first few acts pretty well i think. definitely with hints of this big high stakes epic though.
10. (what happened to 7 8 and 9>???), i think the voice acting is okay? toby as john is cool, dave took some warming up to but if you listen to him in like an interview (the spindlehorse panel is a good one) he sounds like he could be a good fit. took some getting used to but we've only got a couple lines of dialogue from him. rose is fine, not what i expected at all but its pretty good, and tails as jade has some potential. dont know anything abt karkats va. animation looks interesting, im not sure how i feel about it. very anime-y but also not at all.
1) I do not have a guess in terms of number of pages, but I believe it'll just be Act 1 or a majority of it.
2) Good, hopefully.
3) I don't think it'll be a 1:1 retelling, so it's possible some things will be shown a lot earlier (which I think, depending on how it's done, could be better.) Plus, having future things teased in a pilot would help get people interested in it.
4) Was it not said to be about eleven minutes?
5) It would be really funny.
6) There is no way it doesn't happen and I'm scared to see Digital Circus Homestuck Friday Night Funkin Spider-Man Sing Along. Content farms still use Spider-Man, right?
7) Hard to say, since alot of people like alot of different things. Some may like it a lot, some may hate it. It's possible it'll suck ass and general opinion will shift to hating it, but only time will tell.
10) I think you forgot a few numbers here. Did they go on vacation? I hope they have a nice one. Anyway, I think it looks pretty good. The voice acting's alright as well, nothing to freak out over. Toby Fox being there's fun.
1) How much (page-wise) do you think the pilot will cover?
I think the cliffhanger of Act 1 with John's house in the void is too perfect for them to pass up. They're for-sure gonna slash that thing down and fill a bunch of the gaps with Rose/Dave/Jade stuff, but I feel it is very likely that they'll reach the meteor.
2) Do you think it'll be good or bad (in your opinion)?
No idea! The direction and visuals seem great so far, so it's all down to whether the script holds up.
3) What's the deal with KARKAT? What about Jade? AH???
I've heard tell that Karkat's appearance was animated specially for the trailer, and it would not surprise me if Hussie is the same way. Jade is kinda right on the edge, but I think it's possible that Karkat is just a voice role for now. Hussie isn't credited with an actor at all, I think it's possible they're not even in it.
4) How long do you think it'll be?
I'm assuming you mean a prospective full-series, since we know the pilot is eleven minutes. I honestly have no idea, and I'm not even sure if the pilot will give us a good idea of how truncated the larger story would be. If it were a full-scale adaptation with no stone unturned or even some things made more in-depth, I'd give it sixty-ish 22-minute episodes, but that's a pipe dream. The concept of ten seasons of eleven minute episodes is also completely ridiculous, so I genuinely can't imagine more than four seasons.
5) Will there be musical numbers?
What? no.
6) Do you think children's content farms will capitalize on it? What do you think will get crossed over with Homestuck against its will in Minecraft SFM Nursery Rhymes?
If it's on youtube, yeah. Didn't take long for bootleg plushies, after all.
7) What do you think new viewers will think of Homestuck?
No clue, depends on if it's any good. I bet a lot of people will try to read ahead and get turned off by how much text and fucking-around there is, though. I do worry that the density of weird game mechanics and arbitrary rules about character communication will make it hard for newcomers to get into either way, though.
10) What do you think of the voice acting, or the animation so far?
VA work seems fine. Not great, but not unprofessional or anything. I am worried about a few of the John lines, not because Toby is doing a bad job per se, but because they sound unnaturally-written, and I'd hardly say Hussie crafts dialogue that feels very flowing to pronounce aloud.
The visuals are genuinely pretty great. Not my preference, but skilled in every way. I know people don't like Spindlehorse's usual style, and this isn't totally divorced from that (though if you compare them side-by-side, they're definitely distinguished enough), but to act like this is anything but polished and professional is very silly to me.

what if they adapted kankri by mailing him a bomb

Im not a fan of daves characterization it feels so wrong in the 2 lines he says i know for a fact that he WOULDNT SAY THWT aushshsjfvdjhsbfhfjdjndbsbshsjjsjs im excited and also extremely scared }:(
wOAH,
5] No but it'd be funny
I think it'll be fine. I was going to say it'd probably be like 22 minutes but according to other forum posters its 11 minutes, which makes me think it'll probably only cover like half of Act 1 (I imagine the "look in the sky numbnuts" scene in the trailer is probably the ending).
I sincerely, really truly hope that BenjixScarlet make a homestuck song. please please please let this fucking happen.
I think musical numbers would be fun but only if they're not every fuckign episode. If its like, maybe one every 3 or 4 then it'd be awesome. (alternatively, they completely scrap their plans for the animated series and just do an animated adaptation of the homestuck stage musical. you know the one.)
I hope new viewers enjoy it. I think it would probably do a good job of introducing people to homestuck because in animated format you can more easily compare it to other things. It's kinda like how i got introduced to scott pilgrim through the film and the game as opposed to the books. (funnily enough, homestuck and scott pilgrim have enough overlap you could probably say "hey you should watch the homestuck animated series its kinda like the scott pilgrim series on netflix")
animation's fine but still looks a bit weird. need to get used to it. I am however very happy that they're adapting the pesterlogs in virtually the same way that fan-made Homestuck The Movie script from 2012 that never got finished did where they're jjust phone/video calls. My question is: will there be a narrator? Will it be Hussie?
Also, you didn't ask but voice acting predictions:
these were made up by my friend and I months ago
Tom Kenney as WV
Gianni (you know the one) as Jack Noir
Jane and Nanna are voiced by the same actress (just as Roxy/Mom, Bro/Dirk, oh thats it right grandpa's dead)
Bec is voiced by MY PET DOG Einstein who NEVER SHUTS UP
Christopher Knights (or Cary Huang) as Clubs Deuce
Rufioh as Dante Basco (the fictional character as the actor, not the other way around)
JG Quintel as Dirk (PJ Heywood is Sinewave)
Patricia Summerset as Calliope (which I guess means she's also Caliborn???)
Sollux and Tavros are the Smiling Friends
Nepeta is Ellen Wong
Whoever plays Mr. Fantastic in Marvel Rivals as Doc Scratch (and Emma Frost as Kanaya)
Michael Guy Bowman as Andrew Hussie ok I'll stop
1 - I think the pilot will cover all of Act 1. People forget not only how short Act 1 actually is, but also how many of the pages in Act 1 specifically are just John 'examining' various objects in his house (posters, objects, fireplace, etc), in an animated format these pages would all become background details, meaning that they would take up exactly 0 seconds of screen time despite being fully included. Act 1 can definitely fit into 11 minutes with minimal changes or cuts with this in mind.
2 - I think it will be good, the team working on it seem to know what they're doing.
3 - I predict that Karkat and Jade will likely feature in a short 'flash forward' section at the end of the pilot, intended to make it clear to the audience that there's a bigger story here and introduce some fan favorite characters, in the hopes of getting people excited enough to get that Season 1 greenlight.
4 - The pilot will be 11 minutes. As for the length of a theoretical Season 1 or full series, that is impossible to really say.
5 - I doubt it.
6 - The content farms will latch onto it if it gets popular enough.
7 - They'll probably think it's pretty interesting, but won't really be sure where the story is actually going.
10? - The animation and voice acting both looked pretty good from my perspective.
1) My bet is that it'll cover Act 1 and also small bits of other future acts (Karkat is there), but it will follow its own timeline at the end of the day<3
2) I think it'll be SUPER GOOD (^///^), but seriously, considering who's making it and that they really care about HS and want to do it well, I think that even if what they do doesn't satisfy everyone, no one can deny that it was made with love and that they care about the fans, both new and old<3
3) Karkat is the fan favorite, and we can't have all the Beta Kids without Jade, so I'm totally in favor of seeing them in the pilot soon to introduce them to new fans or at least encourage them to read the comic<3
4) Hopefully 1 hour! But seriously, probably 20 to 30 minutes (If we're unlucky, 10 minutes, but if we're lucky, 40 minutes)
5) While I don't think it's a musical like HH or HB, I refuse to believe there won't be moments where the music will have a lot of importance<3
6) It probably will if it's popular. Luckily, the studio is independent, and in terms of censorship, they probably won't be able to make so many memes of movies, real actors, and real politicians because of copyright XD
7) They'll probably think it's for kids until they realize that, nope, it's not ; )
10) I think it's sublime, and it's just crumbs. I can't wait to see more<3<3<3<3
Why hate when we can love and play video games with each other?<3<3<3<3
