I am a huge fan of the Commedia dell'Arte clowns. I took a class on it in college and ever since it has become one of my special interests.
I played the Pantalone, a sort of archetypal grumpy old man, and received a lot of compliments on my stance. For those unaware, Commedia dell'Arte is based on archetypes, meant to be immediately recognizable to the passing audience, something very important considering how the troupes would historically perform in public squares. These archetypes are informed by their masks, but also, their stances, as each moves in a very particular way.
The Pantalone is supposed to move crow-like, which came very naturally to me as someone who is a bit of a magpie. I also remember getting good laughs from how I'd walk hunched down and slow, and then quickly straighten all the way up (I am very tall, for reference), much like a cartoon character.
I had a great time performing, I really miss it.

I actually just got around to finally playing Psycholonials yesterday. I felt and went through a lot of things in that playthrough let me tell you but most importantly, Mizzlebip is my favourite clown now too.

My favorite comedy clown is Cookie from the old Bozo show. He's so cute, like if a Shih Tzu could be a clown. My favorite evil clown is Kefka from FFVI. And Dr. Rockso, favorite Rock 'n Roll clown.
My least favorite? Joe Pesci. He just doesn't amuse me.
If you like clowns and webcomics, which you must by being in this thread, I recommend Clown Corps. I discovered it about a month ago when I was reading a different work by the artist. It's about a clown special police force, they use pies, balloons and confetti cannons as weapons. And, they manage to still be cool. It's funny, has shonen-style battles, and lots of interesting characters!

@passeriInformal - I think Marvus is my favourite of the Hiveswap clowns, though it's a close call between him and Karako.
Bit of an Amazing Digital Circus fan, so obviously there's Pomni. Who is a bit of a meme, but I genuinely like her as a character. (And the late lamented Kaufmo, we hardly knew you.)
One of the most memorable Doctor Who storylines I remember from my childhood was "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy," set in a sinister circus on an alien world. Most of the clowns were robots (played by real human clowns, except for the partly disassembled ones. I assume.) The Chief Clown, a human, wore white mime makeup and had superbly sarcastic body language.
@margot_kix - Most of what I know of the Commedia dell'Arte is filtered through my classical music background, and I could really do with learning more! The dashing Harlequin and the melancholy Pierrot turn up in Schumman's music, and he came up with two similar clownsonas, Florestan and Esebius, for the two side of his personality. Later on there's Schoenberg's Expressionist song cycle "Pierrot Lunaire," based on the Verlaine poems. One of my university lectures, Roger Marsh, did his own bilingual setting. And I recently wrote a little song about Pierrot with cameos from Harlequin and Columbine.

i like the classic pierrot archetype
Funny enough, I used to play Golden Sun, and there was this class called Pierrot that you were given if you equiped "The Mysterious Card." It came with all sorts of abilities like Juggle and Card Toss and was my favorite class line in the game.
