my humble theory is that its a corpse that she wears as a hat. that seems befitting of a homestuck youth. it doesnt blink at all.
Her bangs (for lack of a better term) move independently of each other on her reveal page, so her hair's definitely alive. I'd guess it's just kind of tentacle hair in the same way as Splatoon, while also providing room for the extra eyes.
my theory is, nymphs is bugs,
specifically, true bugs of the order hemiptera,
instead of wriggly wormlike larvae, they have nymphs, which are more like little wingless adults,
they have tube shaped mouthparts for stabbing things and sucking the blood or sap out of them, like ly'lacs toothed mouth tube,
the nymphs often protect themselves with armour made from their own secretions, or debris, or the corpses of their victims,
and shellac bug nymphs produce shellac, which is what records used to be made out of before vinyl was invented,
