What do you all think of her> I personally think she was done SO dirty in almost every piece of offical homestuck media she's in it's unreal, but what do y'all think?

I like Jane in homestuck proper and a little in beyondcanon, BC Jane is a little bit more of a miss for me due to not having read the epilogues yet tho

I'm a person... Probably.

i used to really hate post-canon jane. i don't hate that character direction so much anymore, and it's mostly because i think it's easy to avoid looking at the parts of a character you don't like or find unsavory. at the same time, it's those parts that make them interesting in their own right. it's easy to keep jane as that girl who loves to bake and would draw a mustache on her finger in selfies and plays mario kart with roxy on their cute double dates, but that's its own kind of reductive too, right? it's kind of infantilizing to act like she's not the kind of person who would be possessive, who prioritizes reaching life milestones like "sexy husband" and "having children" over things like "being happy".

i think jane is fucking awesome because she's a bit of a nightmare person.

I love jane so much, she is actually my favorite alpha kid <33333 I have a lot of complicated and somewhat controversial feelings about her though... i feel like a lot of people got a little bit blindsided by her whole corporate crocker look but for me it felt like a natural progression of her character!!! like. in the comic proper, her whole thing was old fashioned language, nuclear family, corporate america, and adherence to the crocker///HIC vision, and while she did eschew a lot of that at the end, i always felt like we never fully adressed JANE eschewing that, it felt more like she was shown that particular things were bad, without showing WHY or that she reacted at all to it. so i was actually kind of hyped that corpo crocker was in epilogues cause it meant jane could finally fully address her flaws and grow as a person without just retconning her flaws!!! i do think they kind of flung it at us like monkey shit though, and the huge hiatus really just left us with nothing for years. idk i know shes been done a disservice most of the time, but digging through things, i just love how she was written as a whole (zooming out a bit) and shes a character thats really close to my heart. her detective bits in the comic were so fun, and her interactions were always so fun and interesting to me, really got me through the usual teen drama i usually dislike from act 5-6.

I have a bit of a soft spot for her because I rp'd as her to fill in one of the final canon character roles in a rp some of my friends were in and convinced me to branch out a lil into other characters... Its a very personal preference type thing but I rarely ever shy away from when a story takes a character and really amplifies their flaws or reveals a hidden antagonistic nature. It adds interest! Dimension! Spice! But I know it makes a lot of people turn away (in a general sense not just mspa) so like i get it but also I think its sooo fun and fascinating when layers are pulled back and its a little bit ickier than you expect

RE: Victoria

I see where you're coming from, but in the original comic, I did not see Jane as possessive at all, she more of sacrificed so much of what she she wants for others, and only got really pissed at them, on that one HORRIBLE BIRTHDAY, where it was more justified. I do not want to infantalize her, Jane in the main comic definitely has flaws, I just feel like, in Beyond Canon and The Epilouges, she's almost written as if she's still in Crockertier.

Also, sidenote: I wouldn't hate postcanon Jane as much as i did, if she

1: wasn't turned into an irredeemable character in BOTH TIMELINES, and the story just acts like that's her natural state

2: Was utilized more in the main comic, and so it didn't feel like she was just being shunted off because the writers don't like her.

Also, I specifically don't like the anti-troll racist angle because one of the last conversations she has in the main comic is her making a trollsona with Calliope.

Deserved way better writing wise.

She's probably my least favorite main character, but i just find her boring, not bad. That said, HSBC did her so dirty.

Calliope liked and cared so much about Jane that she sent her her most precious treasure in the world, her juju. I don't think Callie was wrong to believe in Jane, and I don't really view Jane through the lens of postcanon because of how absurd her character development is... not even good as political commentary, let alone character development.

Personally, Jane Crocker is my favorite character from Homestuck. I know a lot of people hated her because she could seem selfish and immature. But the thing is out of all the kids, I feel like she was the most realistic, she grew up in the suburbs and her dad wasn’t as into pranks and practical jokes like dadbert was. She was a relatively normal suburban kid who acted like anyone would in her situation. She really was just a girl going through it and I could relate to her ^^

I used to really hate the idea of evil post canon Jane but I've come around to the idea. I feel like people don't consider that her main troll interactions were with the Serkets and Meenah/Condesce.

I adore her, honestly she definitely did deserve better writing-wise, but I do understand the direction her character went in HSBC. It makes sense as annoying as it is. Either way, I do enjoy her; Evil or not.

goated. 'nuff said

ok for serious i adore jane. she's actually the reason i got into classpects on the level i am since she and aradia both have really fascinating relationships to their aspect.

it's hard growing up with expectations and propaganda shoved down your throat. it's hard and no one understands.

anyways. i agree with victoria and mech.bow that the beyond canon direction makes a lot of sense. jane's really interesting when you look past the baker girl image.

I think Jane's potential in early act 6 was largely squandered. She's introduced as a slightly more morally inflexible, pragmatic, sceptical and grounded counterpoint to John, and I think that could have been really neat. I do like her being shitty and evil in postcanon in theory, even if I don't vibe with the execution.
