How do I get my friends into Homestuck??

You don't need to get ALL of your friends into Homestuck, or into any work of art you love to begin with!

Part of the beauty of humanity and of social ties is that everyone is different, everybody's tastes are different too, and we all make different choices and have different perspectives.

And yeah, it's great to share common passions with friends, but it's also great when part of what you appreciate is your own thing, when part of what they appreciate is their own thing, when you're all your own person and you can indicate to people how and why you came to appreciate a work without giving off pressure or expectations that they should discover the work too.

Always look for new things, the world is full of incredible universes, unique artists and fantastic stories! Exchange about it all with your friends, become explorers of all kinds of masterpieces!

A good method is to warn them of how long and complicated it is, and that under no circumstances should any of them try to speedrun the thing, out of worries for their health.

If they're headstrong enough, they'll take it as a challenge.

Take the risk on scaring them. Those that know the risks will hopefully be ready for the journey ahead.

Also, make sure to send those interested a link to the unofficial homestuck collection, to make it easier to take the first step.

I have tried. And succeeded more than you’d think! But almost nobody gets past Act 3. Not much advise I can give here, sad to say.

You can do what I did and continuously post about it on your private story until enough of your messages get curious and message you asking what a davekat is.

If you can get them to actually start reading it, I highly suggest making it a live reading between you and your friend(s) where you all do voices for the characters. This is how I introduced oomfie to the comic and it helped them get absolutely hooked and also helps you gauge in real time whether or not they're feeling it and if their interest will go anywhere.

It really just takes a certain kind of person. I've had some friends that didn't read it for years and then finally meandered through it on a whim and were huge fans, and I've had a friend that read it all in one week during a holiday, said "it was interesting!" and then never mentioned it again T_T. I think it's important to understand that it is going to be a heavy investment so you have to consider if they're the type to actually enjoy it after putting in all the man-hours or not... Otherwise, tease and talk about the parts of it that you think would appeal to them!
