Ah nice, I'm glad to see a new generation of fansession rpers getting together to do stuff. I've already got my hands full with my own rp stuff (my OC's finished their fansessions years ago and they're firmly in postgame, focusing on adult things), but I can give y'all pointers on potential pitfalls of session rp:
Something that comes to mind is the whole "entry chain order" thing. I highly suggest making that either a nonissue somehow or otherwise making that flexible, especially if some folks end up quitting or disappearing after a while. SBURB as known in the comic isn't exactly very modular in that respect, but that doesn't mean the session you create has to be. Just make sure the one running things has a plan and remember to communicate about potential conflicts and things a lot.
Try to figure out which things will be "enforced" and which things will be done fast and loose. There's a lot of gaps that have never been defined in SBURB due to the cases for those things never occurring in homestuck proper.
How will your group handle grist? will specific types be tabulated? will it be abstracted to some manner? How much narrative to mechanical crunch ratio are y'all expecting or shooting for?
What (gameplay and literary) genres are intended or expected? Will it be about conversations? Relationships? The assumed combat gameplay loop? A particular chosen theme that the mechanics and narrative will be pointed towards?
What kind of session will it be?
All these questions and more will be important to hash out amongst yourselves for the sake of sharing an experience that you'll all enjoy taking part in.
Also, you'll need to have contingencies in case certain people involved aren't available for certain things.
