Come to think of it, the "Helluva Boss" pilot might be a closer comparision. (The Hazbin pilot is so damn good, the bits of the actual series I've seen feel a bit underpowered by comparision.) They didn't exactly disavow the Helluva pilot, but the tone of it is very different from the series.
The humour was pretty much just "Look, imps are graphically butchering innocent humans, aren't we edgy." And there's some of that in the actual series, but that's no longer the focus. They figured out that a) half the audience is far more interested in the imps' personal lives and b) people root for the imp assassins more if their adventures are morally grey. So, a shift in emphasis and tone.
(I hope Glitch go in a similar direction with "Gaslight District": that pilot was visually impressive, but the characters left me cold.)
So, I think there's some hope that the Homestuck series wil get the characters a bit closer to the originals once they're making full-length episodes. Not the end of the world if they don't, though. I love the X-Men movies, and they change things so much, Movie Rogue and Comics Rogue are basically two different characters.
got bandersnatches? i,uh, can handle that for you,
