It's pretty common knowledge that mages are the class we know least about, given that sollux is the only troll player who leaves during murderstuck that doesn't share a class with either an alpha or beta player. Most people seem to assume they're the active class to seers, but I want to see what everyone else here thinks?

My personal headcanon is that while both Seers and Mages deal with knowledge, the difference is in how they obtain their knowledge; with Seers obtaining their knowledge through outside means (crystal orbs, tomes, walkthroughs, etc.) whereas Mages primarily obtain their knowledge through experience and action. It's kind of like how in DnD, wizards have to study magic to learn to use it, while sorcerers have innate powers that they need to hone.

Consider Rose contemplating the cue ball vs. Sollux's unparalleled expertise when it comes to coding. Consider Terezi using her coin flips to make decisions vs. Meulin's natural obsession with relationships.

"Mages" are stupid nerds. DnD is for stupid nerds. I want to play a game.

I want to play a game.

I want to play a game.

Mages are the most stereotypical repersentation of their aspect, but lack it physically.

Sollux is self-loathing and pessimistic, but he doesn't get to fully die, he half dies.

Meulin is a frantic shipper matchmaker, but doesn't even have a matespirit anymore.

Maages get fucked constantly by their aspect (Sollux being Doom and diying the most and Meulin being Heart and being controlled by her ex matesprit), so theyre the most experienced by their aspect

hey, read a Clash royale game or CLOWNQUEST or whatever

i've always thought that seer's knowledge of their aspect is very. results oriented? Kankri might know a lot about the social connections between people, but that doesn't mean he's good at it. Rose's powers show her things and events that are important, but they don't show her why. in contrast, maybe Mages understand their aspect on a practical level? sollux knows the ins and outs of Doom, and he's able to exploit that knowledge almost like video game cheats (biggest example I can think of is that he definitely has two dreamselves because he set that up when he was programming SGRUB)

seers foresee events through their aspect, eg terezi being able to see the outcomes of peoples choices. mages know their aspect(at least when not applied to themself) so for example a mage of mind would know what choice someone would make in any situation, but not the outcome necessarily

With us never really having a mage main character I wonder if we are going to have any of the new folks be a mage, it would be interesting to have more data
