john: i could see john liking things like tally hall and the beatles, i think he probably listens to a lot of songs featured in movies as well, and thats how he finds a lot of music. i also think he listens to those songs that are like based on games and stuff
dave: dave obviously likes rap, i could see him liking mf doom tbh and i think hed like the jet set radio ost. not very creative but i mean its right there
rose: 70s goth music. the smiths, siouxsie and the banshees, the cure, etc. i think she probably would listen to classical music on occasion. maybe something like idk mitski as well? maybe?
jade: jack stauber and the adventure tiem ost is the style i associate her with the most, so probably stuff like that but she probably also branches out quite a bit too.
jane: old ass country music and jazz and things like that.
jake: he listens to just about everything but the image of jake bumping brittney spears is quite funny to me so lets go with that
roxy: 2000s pop and also hyperpop, she probably really likes kesha. i think duran duran too maybe (girls on film just reminds me of roxy dfor some reason)
dirk: a lot of grunge and things like soundgarden, i could see him listening to linkin park, but also like odd future too. i think he has also dissociated while listening to radiohead or frank ocean too
terezi: really loud breakcore and hyperpop. i could see her listening to machine girl (not really breakcore but still), and 100 gecs.
sollux: graham buckland i think his name is? the guy who did a lot of the music for ena. probably game osts as well.
kanaya: i could see her listening to billie eillish for some reason. along with that probably similar taste to rose but more poppy? i guess?

dave is canonically into bands nobody cares about so shrug
dave probably listens to whatever was at the top of /mu/core hip-hop back then. he definitely listens to nerdcore rap ironically.
jade is bumping happy hardcore and music inspired by it, but not quite as abrasive as terezi's. she'd probably play the calmer stuff too. depends on her mood.
totally agree on dirk and radiohead/linkin park. i think he also trawls the esoteric charts on rateyourmusic, but he tells people he just stumbled on the albums if they ask.
whatever karkat listens to he's unreasonably afraid people will make fun of it so he'll never let you find out.
equius listens to power metal, which is traditional indigo music and therefore high-class on alternia. but the others are introducing him to different genres which he gets off to enjoying.
i wonder what the heck gamzee would listen to? cause you'd think icp but miracles literally drove him to murder.
eridan listens to goth and emo stuff, the more in-your-feelings and self-pitying the better.
doc scratch is the most pretentious of all. he listens to a curated list of classical musicians from continental europe. all other music is tasteless noise to him. he considers the romantic era the death of music and will tell you all about it for hours.
caliborn listens to harsh noise because it tickles his creepy little brain in just the right way. and a mix of fascist metal and metal that's making fun of fascism but he doesn't get it.

im gonna be so real the reason i didnt have dave like some hyper obscure rap artist is bc i dont know any but i feel like he probably has at least once thought an artist was way more obscure than they actually are. him listening to nerdcore rap is actually inspired tho i feel like he steals them from john
gamzee i think listens to some weird religious troll equivalent of icp that sounds like the song took a lot of drugs. i always saw his whole anti icp thing as being because he viewed it as satire somehow.
