waxing non-poetic about mspabooru

putting this in rumpus room because i'm largely going on a rant here. i don't know if any of the other contributors to the site frequent this site (i highly doubt it) but i have a lot of complaints about how mspabooru is currently run and need somewhere to talk about it because no one else is gonna :B

for those not familiar, mspabooru is a long-running image board where people can upload homestuck fan-art (with credit!) with a community-run tagging system that allows the user to search for anything they'd like. it's been around since maybe 2012 but in the recent years it's contributors has dwindled to a handful of people. i'm one of them.

unfortunately i have multiple complaints about how it's currently run, more specifically the group of people who are keeping it a float and the choices they make tagging-wise. recently there was a decision to purge the entire june_egbert tag, partially to get rid of the downvoters (this didn't work. they're still doing this.) but also because:
-june technically isn't in the comic yet
-most art in the june tag isn't of her silhouette design seen in the comic
-having a tag for june would mean we'd have to have a tag for every trans interpretation of a character
i don't really agree with any of these and the choice was mainly made by an admin, despite there being pushback from another admin and some users.

this also resulted in the purging of the entire transtuck tag, which is for, you guessed it: trans characters! supposedly also to counterract the trolls but guess what! that didn't work either! we still have people downvoting anything that could be seen as queer, even including pride flags. the transtuck tag has been replaced with the pre-existing rule63 tag and we can't go back on this, because you're probably going to get ignored by the current admin or have your changes reverted.

as a trans person this has made contributing to the site high-key uncomfortable for me, and even before this i've had unpleasant experiences with how the current userbase treats artists and how they talk about the current content being put out by the official team. tldr: they don't care for beyond canon and will always take the opportunity to tell you how it sucks.

in general contributing to the booru is only tolerable if you don't read the discord and hide the comment section from yourself. i wish the new website was up already so that i could block half the people here. it's frustrating and i know it could be run better and more efficiently if different people were in charge. alternatively a different booru would be great too. i'm sick of not saying anything about it and i wish more people knew even if it's small potatoes compared to everything else going on right now.
