the dislike of epilogues/hs:bc characterization boggles me

I'm pretty disconnected from the fandom. My only engagement with the fanbase comes from looking at Reddit theories and guides, plus being in the Discord server for updates and Andrew’s occasional breadcrumbs. So when I finally started engaging more with the actual people in the fandom, I was really surprised by how many of them disliked or even hated the Epilogues and HS:BC and outright refused to engage with the content. In my opinion, both of them are pretty enjoyable (but nobody asked for my opinion). It always strikes me as really odd how even people who claim to be fans have such intense hatred/dislike for the post-canon continuations.

IMHO, a lot of people tend to ignore or simply forget that none of the kids were socialized or raised properly, especially the alpha kids, and that contributes heavily to how a person acts later in life. A lot of the characters that get hate for how they were written (see: Jade, Jane, Dirk, Gamzee, Dave, and to a lesser extent Rose) already had the seeds planted in the original comic for how they'd eventually turn out.

I also think it’s really curious how nobody ever critiques the fact that John and Jake barely develop as individuals, yet people trash on Jade for doing a lot of the same things Jake does. Very interesting.

There’s no such thing as a “normal” Earth when it was created by a bunch of dysfunctional teens who, in turn, became dysfunctional adults amplified by 10,000. Empathy and understanding are really important when reading Homestuck characters, especially with the current relationship dynamics. People who grew up with no family are going to act vastly differently from people who did
