PREFACE
In this thread, I will be posting in-depth reviews of MS Paint Fan Adventures. I've been in the MSPFA community for a little while--though not nearly as long as some of my friends--and I've really enjoyed the community built around it and the stories told through it.
I normally go for non-sburb comics, but will still enjoy the occasional sburbventure regardless, really. While I may not read adventures too often, I feel I want to do something to show my appreciation for each one I read.
That is why I'm starting this reviews thread. I admit, I'm not much of a critic, and so unfortunately (or fortunately?) you won't be finding a lot of nitpickery here, but I often have a lot of good to say about things.
I will be writing each review inside of replies to this thread, and then editing the main post to link to them, so that it's easier to find them. Please note that I don't take requests, sorry! I read whatever catches my fancy at any random time, as there's a lot of other things I work on in the day, so I don't often sit down to read adventures as often as some other folks might. That's precisely why I want to really take in the experiences more thoroughly.
Bear in mind that these reviews will likely contain spoilers for the stories they're reviewing!! Keep that in mind if you want to check them out.
HOW MY REVIEWS WORK
When I review an adventure, I will first casually read it on my own time. Then, as I write out the review, I will be going through the entire adventure again at a later date with a fresh mindset, letting myself really ponder what I had just read.
I'll normally start a review with an introduction about the story, commenting my initial thoughts, things I like about it overall, and anything else I feel like mentioning. I'll also include a sort of TL;DR in the beginning, briefly mentioning whether I like an adventure or not and what about it I enjoy.
From there, I will place down "checkpoints". Checkpoints are essentially page numbers (based on the website url's page number) in the adventure where I will pause and talk about what happened in the pages between the current checkpoint and the last. For example, I may place a checkpoint at page 13, and discuss my thoughts on what happened during pages 1-13. Then, a new checkpoint at page 36, talking about what I liked between pages 14-26. Checkpoints may be accompanied with an embedded image of the page I'm using as a checkpoint, if it's suitable for display.
I will review all the way up until either the adventure ends (through completion or cancellation), or up to a somewhat current page if it's still actively updating. I may come back and review future pages of the adventure after a while if it's updated a lot since my initial review.
I'll talk about visuals, storywriting, music, and anything else the adventure presents. I'm an artist, musician, and worldbuilder myself, so I find those particular areas of an adventure to be really interesting. I am however, not terribly skilled at storywriting so you can't expect a very professional review of that aspect of an adventure. I'll give my honest thoughts as they come to me, and if there ever is any genuine critique I have to give, I'll try and do so in a constructive manner.
I will not be giving a "score" of each adventure, just so you know. This thread mostly exists as a means for me to analyze and infodump about cool adventures I just read, and I don't necessarily want to start ranking and scoring things. Especially because I find I'm actually really bad at coming up with scores and rankings for things and find they shift all the time, lol. You'll know in the preface whether I liked or disliked an adventure I'm reviewing. And bear in mind, that my opinion on an adventure does not dictate whether it's "worth" reading or not. Seriously, go read it yourself, and form your own thoughts!
At the end of an adventure, I might have some last words to say. I highly encourage you to read an adventure yourself and form your own opinions on the matter. Heck, even go and make your own reviews! I'm just doing this for fun and hope it's something that'll show my care for the MSPFA community.
Without further ado, here are the reviews!
