If I tell yall that the relationship between the satyrs and nymph is a little TOO SIMILAR to how people treat African culture vs European (Greek/Roman) culture.
Like in the little history we get on satyrs and nymph through [S] Peruse Librarium and it doesn’t really paint the nymphs in a good light calling them “salt-slurping nymphs” (I don’t care what anyone says that has some raciest undertones. the whole book of “our checked past” just screams the colonization African countries.
I’ve got a lot more to say on this especially on religion and even though I don’t have enough evidence to support most of my claims the absence of evidence isn’t the evidence of absence

This whole Swiss section has been dense with dogwhistles along these lines and others. Many of which I did not catch myself, but have seen other people point out. It's pretty interesting
yeah, a lot of Satyr culture is both European with some really thin tints of Japanese culture
the thing about Japan is that its also really colonial and alt_righty (they even hired a new prime minister who is really right wing) and tends to erase the things they do or just flat out saying they never did it, maybe Satyr society also do things like that.

Well, ok, to be specific, Japan was a racist imperialist power circa WW2, as most people probably know. The fact that it was an empire and no longer is, but has a government that has often maintained a rose-colored view of the past, makes Old Japan a pretty obvious companion piece here for the other empire nostalgia-fascism. But on top of that, there is also the tendency among extremely online western right-wingers to assert that present-day Japan is based for (supposedly) being so much more right-wing than the degenerating leftist America/etc. So on top of the actual imperialist history, there is this appropriative component as well. Which feels relevant to me since Dirk grew up in America.
Actually, this summons a few other comparisons in my mind if you want to get really deep into it - 1) Dirk growing up in the ruins of an America (imperialist power) destroyed by Alternia (another imperialist power) vis a vis America's bombing and occupation of Japan as a strategic move in the upcoming cold war and 2) the shockingly obvious comparisons between Dirk and Yukio Mishima. But maybe that is for another thread.
also the ruins of the America Dirk has access to arent even our imperial America. it is an america in control by the Condence, who really tried to take over the world and when she couldnt just fucking drowned it, so probrably most of the Remains of the old world where distorted by Altenias own colonial invasion.
