Only acts 1 and 2 are out at the time of writing this, plus an intermission. I figure now's as good a time as any for me to write up my thoughts.
-I think it's weird for the fic to be centered around thanksgiving, considering this takes place on Earth-C. That's something that always bothered me about Earth-C though, how despite being a new planet populated by four cohabitating dominant species-es, everything seems to just be the same as Normal Earth, occasionally with a splash of Troll-colored paint. Why is Dick Van Dyke still around when he should have died in 2009/the condescensioning? Why is there a thanksgiving and a troll macy's when both concepts should have been righteously obliterated into nonexistence by meteors and troll meteors respectively? (This is all a nitpick of course, but still)
-I liked the conflict between June, Rose and Kanaya. I don't much care for Divorced Rosemary Angst but if you're going to do it you should do it well. I think June trying to get them to make up out of a desire for things to 'return to normal' was executed pretty well.
-I just cannot bring myself to care about Tavvy's deltritan friends. Which is fine, they are just extras, but still there was nothing to them I could latch onto. Also I was really weirded out by the scene of their conversation randomly pivoting to how all of them Hate Men and Vrissy having to drunkenly come to The Defense Of Men. It didn't need to be there, it didn't say anything, and it felt like the author just wanted to shoehorn in an anti-men strawman for whatever reason. That moment kinda soured me on the rest of the fic to be honest, it was a serious red flag and now I feel like another shoe is going to end up dropping.
-I did like how they implied Tavvy was an egg, though. Plus an implied transfem first lady Karkat, AND June finally being out as June? Hell yes. (HSBC team, if you're listening: one billion more transfems to canon. i beg you.)
-I don't think this fic will influence my view of Homestuck as a larger work in any meaningful way, but I am interested in seeing where the story goes while it's getting updated. I don't have a rating in mind, and I don't think I should give it one until the story's concluded.
