John’s recent vision from page 719 is incredibly interesting, and I think I've got a very solid theory about what it all means.
Between the weird undulating light that turns into Vriska’s smile, there are three scenes that appear.
1: A pumpkin that is actually a cake, along with the knife used to cut into it.
2: The table in a white void, with an empty chair.
3: June Egbert on a stage. Or maybe those are Act curtains?
The elephant in the room here: who is this June? I've seen a lot of people assuming that this is Candy!June who John is going to become within the Plot Point. However, I have an alternate theory. I don’t think the silhouette is Candy!June, I think it’s Meat!June, and I might have an idea of where she is.
Lord English's narrative poison seemingly forced Meat!John out of Homestuck proper. His friends are barely thinking about him, nobody but Terezi seems to care all that much that he's gone, and nobody even bothered to check his house, where the letters he left behind sat unopened.
So, where do you go when you're forced outside of the narrative? Picture Homestuck as a world riding on the back of a turtle. Now picture turtles all the way down, narratives standing on the shoulders of the ones that came before them. Where would you go if you were pushed off of your own narrative? To the next layer down, of course.
I think Meat!June is in Problem Sleuth. Let me show you why!
Here is the pumpkin from the vision on page 719. It's also a gender reveal cake, which is funny, but the pumpkin itself is most important here.
Here is the standard pumpkin model used in Homestuck. Pretty different! But...
Here is the schema pumpkin model from Problem Sleuth. Look familiar? It doesn't stop there!
Here is the chair from page 719.
Here's the afterlife from Problem Sleuth. Sensing a pattern here!
So, let's say Meat!John ended up in Problem Sleuth somehow. What is it about this silly and noirish world that would force some cold, hard self-reflection?
Meeting your imaginary female alter ego will do that to you. Hey John, feeling normal about this?
...
He's fine.
These curtains might not be Act curtains after all! You know what was all the rage in the 1920s? Vaudeville comedians. You know, like Poppop Crocker from the Alpha timeline. Also, this is unrelated but I literally JUST noticed that her coattails look like a handlebar mustache. How silly!
So yeah, that's my theory about June! I'd love to hear other people's responses and interpretations of their own. So, SO excited for her to finally make an appearance!!!

this is actually blowing my mind a little bit, holy shit
A few further thoughts and questions:
- Why the pumpkin in particular? Gambit Schemas are used for turning into spooky Halloween monsters, which doesn't really make sense thematically. Unless she's actually some sort of spooky ghost lady now?
-The use of the afterlife is interesting. This is one of the main reasons I think it's Meat!June: she's dead, so Problem Sleuth is her afterlife. And why the empty chair?
-If this is Candy!June, how is she going to get to Problem Sleuth? Just spitballing here, but maybe it could be some sort of scenario where there's no way to go forwards and out of the black hole, so they have to go backwards instead? Unsure about this and it feels less likely.

This is so genius I'm incorporating that into my belief system immediately

I thought I was so clever for figuring out that the table was Death's board game table (in particular it's where the characters play the Game of Life, which feels super thematically relevant to Candy cus it waz all about taking Ace Dick on a dubiously-relevant side quest where he got married, had kids etc. while the other characters actually pushed the plot forward), but I never picked up on the schema pumpkin at all!! Really great catch!!!
There've been a lot of things going on in Beyond Canon that have made me think about characters transforming into zombies or other ghoulies: the nymphs are surrounded by all sorts of necromancy and metamorphosis imagery (GC is Rose, who went grimdark; AA is Aradia, the ghost; and CC is Kanaya, a vampire), and we now know they like to eat the corpses of dead parents wherever they find them; plus Ly'lac's denizen is the Ancient Egyptian Set, who famously cut up his brother Osiris only
>eats somewhere other than olive garden once
>fucking dies
*for him to be stitched back up and come back to life - Osiris' green skin is often compared to the popular image of a zombie.
Bringing Problem Sleuth's spooky Halloween transformations into the mix only seems to reinforce all this foreshadowing!!!
>eats somewhere other than olive garden once
>fucking dies
i'm so glad that problem sleuth is required reading now
the epilogues are the best part of homestuck
Please please please please
this is literally all i want
Spades Slick is a butch lesbian 2k25
important to remember that Midnight City is now a canon location and problem sleuth was already reintroduced as within the narrative bounds, ive got a feeling ur dead right
all i got from this is that I need to start reading Problem Sleuth T_T
Brilliant catch! Given me a lot to chew on.
This is really good and I should read Problem Sleuth soon, maybe when I do a giant homestuck reread I'll do it
