Been reading from end of Act 1 up to now for the past week as I haven't been keeping up since Act 1 ended and man this has been a ride.
AA and Del'phi are definitely some of my new favorite characters, I love over the top chunni archetypes and both fit into that perfectly. Obviously the themes of identity with Del'phi contribute to that and me calling them a "chunni" isn't meant to downplay that, I do find it very interesting how they seem to be fighting between both their Nymph and Satyr side. It seems a lot more complicated than just "they have dysphoria and wish to be a male/satyr" which of course is valid to write about on its own and maybe my reading of that will be wrong but for how I see it there also seems to be genuine appreciation for the nymph/female side of her. So perhaps they are more fluid than strictly one wishing to be the other as shown with the thing with their hair(?) Also I saw people classpecting Del'phi and I didn't read all of it but I'm willing to bet their class at least is Seer due to the name reference of the Greek thing the Oracle of Delphi.
I slash the species and gender thing because it seems to me that both Rose and Dirk mainly wanted their species to consist of their own gender identity whether intentionally or not.
I also love how Dirk just kinda ripped off MLP for the different types of satyrs there are. While when we meet Ly'lac and the nymphs we obviously know its very Rose coded but in a more believable and subtle worldbuilding way. Where learning about the satyrs it just hits you like a road roller how Dirk just directly put everything he liked into it with as much blunt force as possible and I love that dichotomy.
So when it comes to themes and being able to stand on its own from just "being a game of sburb with outside factors again" I have a few hopes that I see some seeds of and hope comes to fruition.
Since BC since the beginning has had themes about the nature of continuing a piece of media for its own sake instead of evolving or letting it be done as so many franchises nowadays can't seem to do that I hope that from the mentions of Swiss and Ly'lac talking about their "creators" and we can maybe focus on the disillusionment of that when they finally meet them and realize Rose and Dirk's motives and making them and how they are nothing more than pawns to keep Homestuck relevant rather than being made for any sort of love or greater design. It's just some stunted adults who are doing a dick measuring contest and you happen to be stuck in the middle of it. It's very different from the kids learning that the trolls made their universe since they still technically didn't have a hand in making their race personally or designing them to play sburb.
Anyways if you have anything to add to what I said or disagree or a correction to something I said be sure to say something. I was really satisfied with the improved writing quality since it rebranded as Beyond Canon and finished Act 1. Am happy to say I am still satisfied and excited to see where they are going forward with this now into Act 2.
