while chatting on the official Homestuck Discord server, i heard an interesting theory that Dagger’s “Guardian” that was shown to us in the latest update, might very well give birth to the Horrorterrors. that the nymphs and satyrs inside her will split into 48 parts and become the creatures we all know and love. also, a lot of people have started noticing that this nymph bears a striking resemblance to Rose, and all those symbols of Light around her only emphasize that. so i was rereading the update and caught myself thinking that this whole story about assimilation and becoming one KINDA reminds me of Abraxas, the Jake’s denizen.
and this whole thing about how she was worshipped, prayed to - she is Hope for survival for the beings who voluntarily gave themselves to her 👀 by accepting and preserving them within herself, she tries to protect them out of love for them 👀 the fact that her inkstone became so dark that it “began to shine like the morning star,” and the star is a classic symbol of hope in many cultures and works of art 👀👀👀
it occurred to me that perhaps this nymph lady will be the key to unlocking the mystery of the inexplicable connection between Rose and Jake, which has been lingering since the original comic
what i mean is:
- Rose and Jake are the only human kids who possess dual weapons
- Rose and Jake are extremely closely connected to magic (Rose for obvious reasons; Jake could potentially wield a wandkind, as happened with another representative of his Aspect. Hope is, after all, the most magical Aspect of them all. besides, it was already mentioned in the comic that Candy!Jake possesses a needlekind, albeit for a different reason, and Rose began her spellcasting exactly with this kind abstratus).
- Rose and Jake have very similar skull-shaped symbols.
- Rose and Jake both created First Guardians for their sessions. Rose wrote the code “MEOW,” from which Becquerel was created, and Jake wrote the code “BARK,” from which GCat was created.
- Alpha!Rose and Beta!Jake were guardians who knew the most about SBURB, “foresaw” future events, and heavily influenced the course of subsequent events.
- and the best part: the names of their musical themes. Rose’s musical theme is called “Orchid Horror.” Jake’s musical theme is “Emerald Terror” Horrorterror.
besides that, there are a few tiny small details about Jake that could tie him back to the same Horrorterrors:
- as we all know, Squiddles are humanity’s subconscious attempt to cope with the subconscious awareness of the existence of the Horrorterrors and the frustration that stems from it. Jake Harley, for unknown reasons (the reasons behind almost everything he did remain unknown to us), surrounded Jade with these toys from childhood onward. this is evident not only from the mere presence of these toys in Jade’s possession in main story, but also from this flashback, where we can see that she is far too young to be thinking about choosing which toys to play with, and yet she has a whole bunch of them.
- his childhood, spent surrounded by monsters, lusii.
- his lusii blanket, which kept popping up in the comic and even made it into HS:BC - Dirk uses it as a tablecloth for his desk
and the cherry on top - Meat!Jake is a Dagger’s exile. it all looks very suspicious.
so, my theory is that Meat!Jake or some iteration of Jake might somehow help nymph lady, who is a creation of Rose, to give birth to these very Horrorterrors, and that would be absolutely disaster. they would become the creators of the Horrorterrors, and that way, everything would fall into place
