Originally, the Midnight Crew were fan-created characters for Problem Sleuth led by the mysterious Professor Mayonaka. This was, obviously, changed when they were introduced in Homestuck, where Jack is the leader of the gang. The pendant Professor Mayonaka wore can be seen twice in Homestuck, although one of these instances was covered following the oil retcon.
