Predetermination. Destiny. The timelines go in different directions, but there are stops that are guaranteed to happen. This claim has been made by several characters in Homestuck; from Nannasprite explaining the nature of SBURB to Scratch arguing that his victory is inevitable to Dirk justifying his greatest project yet.

Rose, a Seer of Light, knows all too well about preordained futures. It's like, her thing. If Rose can't tell the future then what is she even doing? And because she knows what's going to happen, she can best prepare for the outcome. It's this line of logic that sees Rose attempting to push the people she loves away from her before her assured death. And then 8r8k happens.

I'll keep the explanation of Vriska's spirit/hell quest brief: Vriska learned that outcomes are shaped exclusively by actions. There are no guarantees, no amount of luck that forces an end result to triumph over another. She was never destined to beat the bad guy; nor was her death predetermined. Despite the weight of responsibility this revelation comes with, it is incredibly freeing.

In a moment, Vriska shatters the fate Rose envisioned countless times over the course of years with little more than high speeds and a sharp blade. And in the moment it breaks Rose. She'll get over it. In two different ways, Vriska has freed Rose from the bond of destiny. Not only has she proven that the Seer of Light powers are imperfect, Vriska forces a question: what is Rose when she isn't the Seer?

Pre-Act 6, Rose isn't the future person. She's not the first person to see into the future, and it really isn't her strength for most of the beta kids' session. Rose is more into questionable majicks and pulling things apart to learn more about them. And it's the Witch who peers into the murky waters of fate to benefit her more active friends. In short, the fate of Jade and Rose's classpects acted as a cudgel; beating the two young women into shapes that were more expected of them. We as Homestuck fans have done a lot of interpolation as to what being a Seer or Witch means based off of the few examples the comic has given us. My question is, are Rose and Jade actually good examples of a Seer and a Witch, respectively? It certainly doesn't benefit either of them to think of themselves through that lens. Vriska will still own up to being a Thief, but mostly because it sounds cool. I'm running out of time so it's up to you to think on why Vriska was given a class that sounds bad (Witch also has a historically negative connotation, and I think some of that is there, but there's a real back and forth in how the term is used).

Magic is FAKE AS SHIT/FUCKING REAL
