I recently watched Dennis Hopper & Peter Fonda's 60s classic EASY RIDER because it was playing at my local theatre and it's just been pingponging around in my brain ever since. nothing it does is suuuuper innovative from the modern lens, but even still it's one of those movies that's just a pure shock of "Oh my god, you can do that?"

...or at least it was for me. I understand the critiques that it's too slow or aimless, but that's the point.. i'm hip to time, man.

i watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty a bit ago and that movie was fuckin AWESOME!! i think the themes are pretty relatable, you have a guy who thinks his life is kinda boring and wants to really see whats out there but can only daydream about it until he finally gets a shot to go do all that cool travel shit. super good soundtrack with some bangers by rogue wave and jose gonzalez, just a super fun movie overall. one of the coolest parts is how as walter mitty actually goes out and explores he actually starts to daydream less as opposed to the start where he is all over the place thought-wise. also the fact walter mitty's just like actually sick nasty at skateboarding and that comes up multiple times throughout the story is awesome

as for future escapades i've had The Life of Chuck on my radar and it looks awesome from the trailer i watched... i saw some cool art on tumblr about it which is how i learnt about it

re: Dennis Hopper & Peter Fonda's 60s classic EASY RIDER

i've had the soundtrack for 'Easy Rider' on cd since i was a kid, but for some reason i haven't watched the movie! something i should fix, and soon... isn't jack nicholson in that movie? when he was young? hard to imagine him before he was middle-aged.

i feel bad cause the only movies i've watched recently were 'Superman' (loathed it) and 'Fantastic Four' (thought it was fine but admired shakman's respect for the source material). hopefully i can rally some friends into seeing 'The Naked Gun' later this week! and then i still need to watch 'Eddington'... and then there's 'Weapons'... isn't it funny that zach cregger was/is a member of Whitest Kids U'Know?

this is a gallon of pcp.

re: Life of Chuck

I actually just watch this for the second time and I would definitely recommend it. It is a movie that could have very easily been terrible if it was handled just slightly differently, but at least for me the executed it perfectly.

re: Superman

Personally I really enjoyed Superman. I thought it was fun and I liked the focus on Superman as just a really caring person above all else. I also thought all of the performances were good. I think it's funny that even when trying to make a solo superhero movie like that James Gunn just couldn't stop himself from kind of making it an ensemble.

RE: Easy Rider

Dude!!!!!!! You need to watch it. It's so incredible. Not only is jack nicholson in it, it was actually the movie that sort of rocketed him into popularity. he's absolutely amazing in it. at one point, for some reason, my family was considering buying the building used for the exterior of the prison they meet his character in, to use as a gallery space. obviously that did not end up happening because it would be an insane thing to do.

RE: Weapons

i am SO hells of excited for weapons. hearing about the bidding war surrounding its script had me all pumped already, but each successive trailer just has me more and more interested. what is their angle!!!

It's Happy Gilmore 2

recently watched happy gilmore 2 thinking it was going to be a final sandler cashgrab before he retires with his truckloads of dollars. i wasn't wrong about that part per se, the first third of the film was a happy gilmore nostalgia tour, but then they just start throwing a bunch of stupid shit in there. the gist is adam sandler is a washed up alcoholic ex golfer (his abject state of poverty is represented by having to live in boston, a city with a kind of spiritual poverty), who has to start playing again because he's all out of money. but when he starts playing golf his job security is threatened by a new sport GOLF 2 that appeals to zoomers or something i don't know it was pretty incoherent. the main plot point is that happy has to play golf 2, an incredibly violent bloodsport, and be the best at it even though he is a TRADITIONAL golfer (which makes no sense re: happy gilmore 1). it was sorta messed up for a family movie but the souless sandler will do anything for a quick buck

The two most recent movies I've watched are Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. I am very late to the party with these two, but I enjoyed them greatly. The first one moreso of course, but there were parts of the second I found myself liking a lot. Seeing how Death in the second movie most likely inspired the characterization of Death from Problem Sleuth was a fun connection to make while watching. I also really enjoyed the Station, I'm a sucker for that kind of goofy 80s/90s alien design (love you Alf).

I am also one excited for Weapons. The trailer got me hooked instantly, and knowing the director is Zach Cregger only made me more interested.

ok the last movie i saw was In the Mood for Love cuz it was playing at my local arthouse, and i pride myself on being a woman of discerning taste. and you know, it's a movie that's a classic and everyone loves, and wong kar-wai is kind of considered king of hong kong cinema (at least in the west) but honestly?? kind of a snoozer! don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful film and i think wong has a fantastic eye. the color palette is especially nice, these really lush reds and greens that kind of remind me of Vertigo (an all timer) but i really do not buy the chemistry between the two leads.

i enjoy a story that lets you fill in the gaps but i need SOMETHING like can they kiss??? come on. also did a thing that too many movies do, where it has a bunch of ideas of how it can end and instead of picking the most effective one, they just end the movie three times. there was one cut at the very end that went from that beautiful red/green to a very starkly blue image, and i think the movie would've been a lot stronger if it ended there. and then there's like ten minutes after where almost nothing happens!!!

I watched Mallrats in theaters back in June and I'm still actively affected by it. Gotta be in my top 3 movies of all time.
