dirkroxy general

Asking genuinely here, what's the appeal of dirkroxy to you? I can never find any qualities about it that I like and I'm curious what qualities about it someone who does like it finds.

spicyyetti's work is incredible. Both the homestuck related ones and his original work. he is the one that made me appreciate dirkroxy, and his comic continues being one of my favourite pieces of Homestuck fan work.

theyre cute together just from a dynamic perspective, but you can get really deep into their gender struggles and history together. my little blorbos i want to smush together in a lab.

Personally, the main appeal of dirkroxy for me is the subversion. Of course, in Homestuck original, theres no way dirkroxy is anything more than platonic. Even with Roxy's crush on Dirk, we are meant to view it as sort of a "last resort" crush and also something we can disregard. Plus, Dirk only likes dudes, right?

Well, when the Homestuck Epilogues came out and introduced the concept of Roxy transitioning (FTM/transmasc) it sort of made me reevaluate Dirk and Roxy's relationship with eachother. Roxy did something not only unexpected to us, but also unexpected to the great and powerful Ultimate Dirk. This really ignited an interest in me!! And then, I started thinking about their dynamic more and eventually... they became my favorite!! Roxy to me feels like the only character that can sort of "diffuse" Dirk's harshness, if that makes sense.

This ship used to be a big massive no to me, I've kind of mellowed out abt it overtime to just being alright with it, it's nowhere near as offensive as I thought it was originally but it's nothing all too standout either

hello children. i think that dirkroxy is like designer yaoi. like for example davekat is more storebought yaoi. davekat is sort of the converse of yaoi--its cheap, stylish, comfortable and is accessible to basically every person in the modern world. comparatively, dirkroxy is like prada or dior or something. its specifically a challenge to imagine a situation in which dirk and roxy can have a *healthy* romantic relationship, and building that scenario was my goal in Y12K. but ill say that from homestuck 1 their chemistry is so scrummy that i even like the unhealthy incarnations of this ship LOL. i like the concept of hsbc dirkroxy being something like baby-trans roxy feeling all this "i wanna be recognized by you" reverence for dirk, and dirk perpetually running from/avoiding roxy because he knows if he talks to trans roxy that he'll unavoidably face a paradigm shift on his rigid, toxic and WRONG view of gender...he cant protect himself from roxys point of view because roxy is the one person he really respects... so theyre both wracked with total insecurity in relation to each other that doesnt allow them to see the other's true self. I THINK IF THEY HAD A CONFRONTATION IN HSBC IT WOULD BE SOOO MESSY BUT THEYD BE FEELING THE CHEMISTRY HEJSHSGKSDAEHEKSA?

Honestly I think that kind of explain it the best, generally when it comes to a ship where you really have to find a way to make their relationship work it makes it very engaging to talk about as compared to something that just, kind of slides in and just works. Yeah some people will push the narrative of "only fanon!" but honestly I think finding a "canon" way of making these character work together and have a happy life together is what makes discussing these ships (and subsequently writing for them) so fun.

paraphrasing something I blogged about on tumblr a little while ago... love dirkroxy precisely because it puts dirk in a position that he's not necessarily comfortable in. he's a guy obsessed with being in control of every situation and that includes his romantic relationships, which leads him to try to push his partner (read: jake) into a version of masculinity that he understands and knows how to deal with. roxy, meanwhile, being so much newer to manhood, has an understanding of masculinity that's so fresh and different compared to anything dirk knows, so when you put the two together it flips dirk out of that master position he's so comfortable in and makes him the student instead. teach that dude something that will change his life

oh yes i am such a huge fan of ships that bulldoze dirk's preference for intimacy without any vulnerability on his end. that boy has an unnatural fear of having any novel emotional experiences

Not a ship i've ever considered much, tho I have always been a big fan of Roxy's relationship with Dirk being the whole "do I want to be with you or do I want to be you" experience that a lot of trans folks have. I do plan on reading all of the FRAF Adventures so knowing that one of them is in part a dirkroxy story is kind of exciting, bc I'd like to see how someone who really cares about that relationship would write it.

i love dirkroxy!! i have always loved dirkroxy, although in the original comic i was focused on the unrequited nature of it. the evolution of their relationship through the Epilogues and BC has brought out even more love for their dynamic, and i'm really happy about it because they're two of my favorite characters. the way they envy and affect each other truly compels me

i really am glad more people feel comfortable discussing dirkroxy. I feel like it is very misunderstood, and theres also a weird amount of transphobia surrounding roxy's ftm identity in the meat timeline that people just so casually toss out there. dirkroxy has always been yaoi. dont ever forget
