With the official classpect pairing list FINALLY revealed on discord, we can finally find out what's the difference between passiveness and activeness.
List below for ref - yes this is official
From my understanding - passiveness and activeness depends on how persistant the class is to have a certain role in the story. Classes are used for character arcs, so passive and activeness should determine their narrative importance too.
ACTIVE: People who WANT a SPECIFIC role in the story and will act towards it.
Witches; Jade is the first one to reach out to the beta kids, she doesn't want to be alone, so she actively tries to progress the story by forming the group, she WANTS something, and thus works towards it.. Meanwhile Damara on the other hand actively tried to be a dentriment to hers, taking a more antagonistic role. Feferi??? Does not fit into this "active players WANT a certain role" theory.
Prince; Dirk wants to keep homestuck going and thus becomes the narrator in HSBC. Eridan originall wanted to be a hero relating to the hope player prophacy.
Theif: Both Vriska and Meenah WANT leadership roles and works towards it.
Knight: Dave DOESN'T WANT to be a hero [not wanting is still technically a want] meanwhile Karkat WANTS to be a hero.
Slyphs: All slyphs WANT to be heard, they want to be relevent and not sidelined. They WANT to be something important in the story.
Lord: Take a good guess.
PASSIVE: People who AREN'T aiming for a specific role in the story.
I'm not saying passive players aren't relevent, im just saying they arent trying to fulfil a certain role. A active player has a plan for what they want to be and goes for it, meanwhile a passive player sort of just... Does whatever is best at the moment, they prioritize the present or others rather than priortising themself. Passive players have goals, yet, but theyre more group-centric and less self-centered
However an exception to this rule would be seers and mages. A Mage would fit the passive definition and a seer would fit both in this example.
So instead... I have a NEW idea.
ACTIVE: Those who focus on their OWN development specifically.
Passive: Those who help OTHERS to develop or causes the story to develop.
Maid: Ghost!Aradia aimed to maintian the timeline so that her friends stay safe. She was helping the story to develop. Meanwhile Jane is the first alpha kid we see, thus helping the story develop.
Seer: Rose, if I remember correctly, was the first one who wanted to play SBURB. She helped the story to develop because shes why the story started. Terezi helped John organize the retcon, thus helping the story to develop.
Page: Tavros organized the ghost army and is a key player in Vriska's own character development. Jake in HSBC revived Jade, allowing her story to continue.
Rogue: Roxy made a new matriorb, allowing the troll's soceity to redevdlop. She's also the first alpha kid to 'get her act together', however this was done off screen. Meaning we get to see OTHERS develop instead of her.
Bard: Gamzee works for Lord English, thus helping Calliborn to develop instead.
Heir: John did the retcon, allowing the story to develop. John inspired Vriska to develop. However despite helping the story and others develop, he seems to neglect his own turmoil.
Muse: Take a guess.
Passive players do have their OWN arcs, yes, but they help others/the narrative more than an active player would.
All of your classpecting stuff is soo great I really agree with this idea!!
