AO3 Curse - Fact or Fiction?

I'm sure it's real. nobody can convince me otherwise

a few days ago i started THINKING about making a new ao3 account and now im sick. this cannot be a coincidence

I think that’s just the nature of fanfic in general and has little to do with ao3 aside from it being the main popular site of the era (which has always seemed a big potential point of failure when the “let’s mirror fanfic here to preserve them” website becomes “the only/main place anyone posts fanfic” website… back up your stuff and also go make a neocities or something that’s what I’m saying)

Wdym by "the nature of fanfic"? What part of fanfic would make it more likely for writers to get sick?

probably could have phrased that better but like the Nature of Posting Fanfic rather and like no there isn’t anything inherent to it that causes misfortune but it has happened often enough to popular enough fans since before both you and I were born that it’s a bit of a meme

it probably owes much to Authors Notes being very much so tradition and almost as much of the fanfic itself where someone could go “oh sorry I couldn’t release this on time because of [xyz]” compared to comics or illustration where while those notes and descriptions exist they are less often taken into consideration or even looked at at all.

The GOVERNMENT is trying to SILENCE the noble art of FANFICTION. BE AWARE!

There is a noble tradition of Ao3 authors notes along these lines:

"Sorry this is a day late, I'm posting this from the hospital they took me to when I overdosed on heroin after the mob shot my brother. I'll try to do better in future."
