Android and Google

So, I have a Samsung phone running Android, and recently Samsung has communicated they're discontinuing Samsung Messages and everyone should move to Google Messages. I talked about it more in this thread and I am using Chomp instead. It's not great, but I am liking it more than Samsung Messages.

Today, I finally got fed up enough with my glitchy Samsung keyboard to commit to switching it out. And guess what people recommend? The Google one. Yeah, no thanks.

Two options that seemed promising to me were FUTO and Heliboard. I decided to give Heliboard a shot (am using it now to type up this post), but when I opened F-Droid to install it I got a pop-up alert linking to this article.

Now, anyone who knows about my politics will probably not be surprised about my dissatisfaction with how this article is written ("authoritarian regimes" and a reference to Darth Vader? Really?) but putting that aside, this is frustrating and concerning stuff. I really don't like how Google is trying to monopolize the Android ecosystem.

If this goes through, I don't know what I'm going to do...maybe it'll just be a matter of changing to /e/OS?

Anyway, Heliboard seems fine enough. It has an experimental Nepali keyboard which is exciting to me. Weirdly, it doesn't have Chinese or Japanese? If I can't find a way to get those on here that might be a deal-breaker.
