Loading reply snippet...Yeah it's an infrastructure problem for sure :( anyone who might genuinely care about the internet as fulfilling social needs and not turning that into an "attention market" isn't going to be in a place economically or geopolitically to provide that as a service at-scale or long-term.

To circle back on this thing you said it frustrates me sometimes when discussions on "going back" to how the internet used to be is a responsibility of users like us. We can't power of friendship and passion project our way into making the dot com bubble be a thing again...!
Ack, I wish I had something more in-depth or less negative to respond with right now but like I said it's only recently have I been able to make a serious break from social media (and I do view that as a thing of Being Able, when I think about why I was so mired in the bullshit before from a hypothetical third-party perspective I feel like it'd be cruel to describe what I was doing as merely "totally solvable bad habits just put down the dang phone!"), I'm still really contemplating, like, the difference in perspective on stuff that has granted me.
I guess I can say I'm really glad you built up the courage to post this topic so we could have this conversation!
