(this is gonna be a long one):
Definitely David Lynch. Eraserhead was part of the reason why i ended up going with the black & white artstyle, and Astraea's design is slightly based off the Lady in the Radiator. i enjoy his surrealist horror and hope to evoke similar effects in Dungeon.
game-wise, I'm gonna have to say Space Funeral. i think the game kinda speaks for itself but I really like what it conveys and the simplistic (but intentionally disgusting) artstyle is just super fucking cool and evocative.
i'm also inspired by Vewn (Victoria Vincent). i really like her artwork (and her videos) and the vibe they give off.
i also really take from the works of E.T. Lee. she does a lot of surrealist black & white art (just like, way more meticulous than mine). she also put together the title page for Dungeon (where her account/some of her work is linked).
i'm very much influenced by the original Dungeons of Sunnydale as well (as well as it's sequel/spinoff Bunglers of Bloomingdale), with most of Dungeon's artstyle/mechanics being based on it. the creator's other mspfa Autopraxis (really good btw) also got me to start putting my own stuff on mspfa. most of my initial (and current) reception to Dungeon is found on the Autopraxis discord.
Another mspfa that inspired me was probably How Did We Get Here. it pulled me into the mspfa community a few years ago. i take a lot from its artstyle, and it's just a really enjoyable comic to read.
go apeshit i guess
