> Realize the buttons might correspond to room openings as there isn't a button where there would topographically be a room opening, (aka no button to the right of the button in the very bottom left of the button panel)... so just push all the buttons to open corresponding rooms?

You can already tell this is going to get annoying very quickly.

Okay, so you were making the stick figure check each new room for anything interesting so that you can start speeding things up here, and ended up discovering some sort of CREATURE.
This is not a pleasant discovery at all. Thankfully, you are not an idiot and can remember that the attack command does not work without a weapon, so you instead decide to go press the button you are somewhat sure matches the door here.

You would explain the reasoning behind the assumptions you made to get here, but the COMMAND already kind of did that so you don't bother with it.

As usual, your intelligence is rewarded.
You really should have guessed that there would be some sort of threat, since the ability to open and close those doors with the panel was obviously not intended to take this long to figure out.
Now the question is, what is the actual goal of this puzzle? Do you have to find GEAR and use it to defeat all the CREATUREs? Is there a specific room you have to get to, possibly guarded by a CREATURE?
Is there levels in this? The STATS menu did not have any sort of EXP bar so you assume not, but maybe the UI just sucks and does not show important information like that. What happens when you DIE in this game? Does it just restart? Is there some sort of physical punishment on you?
You really wish this STUPID AWFUL GAME that SUCKS was not so important to you right now. If it was just a stupid little thing you were playing at your HOME BASE, this would honestly be kind of fun to solve.
Alas, this is no mere game now.
This is your only hope of escaping this stupid puzzle labyrinth created by your long-time NEMESIS and recent ACTUAL TARGET, H.N.
