All I can say is it gets better after "The reboot" (a.k.a after the comic's revival). In fact, the writing in HS:BC made me like some of the characters a little more. IMHO, the Epilogues and first part of HS:BC has a lot of bullshit that makes it hard to care about the characters and the story. But, for example, in order to care about Jade and her relationship with Yiffy, you first need to be introduced to Yiffy as an idea.

What I'm trying to say is that, just like the original Homestuck, Beyond Canon gets a lot better, but it may be hard to convince yourself to be patient and get there.
