I just find this to be a fundamental disagreement on how to engage with fiction; I do not agree with the concept of "suspension of disbelief" or "stakes and tension" in the first place, and I think stuff like the retcon is deliberately challenging the traditionalist ways that readers invest in characters.
Either you're up for that kind of thing or you're not; I don't think I could argue you into turning how you see fiction 180 degrees around.
