Been running through JID's new album a bunch. Currently mulling over his verse on SK8 (which has a music coming!). JID in brief describes hearing a shooting outside while at the skating rink with some friends -- they keep carousing, but even the flirting feels like it's been intensified by the spectre of death. Like he describes grabbing his girl's ass like a crane game claw, a light hearted reference to the setting that suggests a kind of desperate tension. The violence makes love feel more urgent -- a moving little story to pack into a short verse on the boppiest track of the album.

Also the comment about the shooter "killin the vibe" (plus the censored reference to Kendrick on Community) makes me think it doubles as a cheeky description of last year's big beef. "Damn, somebody got lit up. Not anybody I know though, so it's whatever"

The success of a paradigm may not be for the reasons it claims (i.e. accurate description of the world). This is good.

"Malo" is fine
