Even if grooming isn't about sexual attraction, the idea that the sole gay male of the cast is placed into the position of groomer is highly problematic.
And as we veer back in to the topic of incestual abuse, both of these things are things gay men get accused of IRL all the time! Especially incestuous abuse!
If we really want to have a discussion around the patriarchy and how it manifests in Homestuck, it might make more sense to focus it on the characters who lived through the patriarchy and thus have a frame of reference for those beliefs and behaviors. Except Rose never held any respect for authority and I think it undermines her character to say that just because Dirk is a man, she is more vulnerable to his actions or that being a man gives Dirk an advantage to manipulate her. Yes, the writing is supposed to emulate the IRL power imbalance, but I don't think its good writing and I don't think it makes sense to place Dirk as the incestuous groomer if you are not trying to be homophobic.
I really don't believe that Dirk exhibits the type of misogyny present in the epilogues towards anybody until the Epilogues roll around and I find it particularly suspect that all acts of misogyny get placed on the only gay guy in the cast (and Gamzee.)
And like I said before, people are latching onto JUST the Dirk and Rose bits, ignoring how Dirk now also pressures Dave in to a sexual scenario and we don't get clear confirmation of Karkat's own consent. And he sexually abuses Jake. Paint it all how you want but together it's all just homophobia. You all are focusing on each piece individually, when I'm addressing the whole overall story. As well as how OTHER queer men are handled in the cast.
Hussie is a reactionary author, this much is clear given that all of Openbound is Hussie poking fun at different fandom subsets but also zoning in specifically on DirkJakeJane with the parody of Damara/Rufioh/Horuss. We know this because of the whole Feeling Peachy/Feeling Caucasian stupidity as well. Hell, this comic began with Hussie taking user input for the character's names.
Yes, they're responsible for what they put to pen but we can't also pretend they don't keep up with and write things based on fandom at the time.
