I'm a 2008 fan, I started with Problem Sleuth back in the days. It was this one weird post-modern thing done by this one person in a remote corner of the Internet. The web was a lot less centralized back then, and discovering this experimental webcomic with raw drawings, no dialogue and convoluted, seemingly random progress felt like an adventure by itself.
Then after a complicated start, I got into Homestuck for real in 2010. I was captivated by it, particularly by Hivebent. Alternia just spoke to me. I got mixed quite deeply in fandom business, I did Denizen designs for the Nestbound project, started helping with some adventures, created a first adventure myself, ROTTING. It was an original work featuring a zombie in an alternate history future magitek Russia. I ended up cancelling it before reaching page 100, because I got a more interesting idea...
After doing some Homestuck roleplay, I started imagining concepts about a troll SBURB session. I had stopped doing fanworks back then (I was a big fanfic writer in the early 2000s) and didn't want to get back to it, but some ideas just kept coming back again and again. Ultimately, I decided that yeah, I needed to make a fancomic. After working out the main structure and story elements in Fall 2010, I started preparing concept arts and other assets, and finally launched the work in February 2011. It was Alabaster: The Doomed Session.
I kept being active in the fandom for a few years, working on Alabaster, cooperating with other people's projects (I helped a little on Prequel for example), and talking with both the large MSPA circles and the tinier MSPFA subforum group - we had a sweet place on IRC.
After 2013, I drifted away from both the fandom and my fancomic. The end of the forums in 2016 was still a shock. But I continued my life, focused on other things, professional writing - I got a second novel and various texts published, and I was happy about it -, original webcomics.
In late 2022, my passion for Homestuck started coming back, and I connected again with fandom spaces - new fandom spaces, the Omega Forums, Homestuck XYZ, the various Homestuck Discord servers. I immersed myself in the culture again, because I felt a need to finish what I started. I was going to conclude Alabaster.
I've been pretty active in the last two years, and it's been interesting. I discovered a lot of fantastic fanworks, some nice communities, I made a few pals and friends even. I moderated various places, with various degrees of success. I played with some cameos and cooperations.
I was known under the name Cauchemar back then. I wonder if I'll meet again some of my old friends in here!
